My Dear Mother, I have just arrived from my Father's government, after crossing the Caribbean sea 3 times, which ought to be called an ocean, the country I left I think is the finest in the universe; no money required but for furniture & dress, which you must buy of the traders, provisions are in abundance, & ....... will want but very little money, as you go out in a canoe & catch all sorts of fish, & with a gun you kill wharsees or the wild hog, turkeys, currasons, guams & all kinds of birds. I went out on horseback almost every day with Mr Shepherd at whose house my father principally resided & shot plenty of pigeons. My father did not hoist his flag for his house is not yet built, but all the country are glad he's come except C....... & Capt Humphries who want my Father's government to be put under the Columbian flag, & be officers .........selves; we lived luxuriously, ever day turtle soup turtle roasted, alablazed? &c. & loads of turtle eggs, fried & boiled, they lay above 300 at 3 different times in the sand, you watch them as they come on shore & you can buy a turtle of 400lbs for 4/0d. My Father has seen more than he wished to have seen both here and at Bocotoro, but he nor I have ever had the least illness tho he has been harassed, disappointed with everything on his mind: he had a 6lb cannon planted at his door but he had no troops nor money nor ever heard from his son in London; they have published him & Mr Lumley as the 2 greatest villains on earth. My Father is going to law about it every body is on his side. I have got loads of shells &c for Jane pray give my love to her & tell Alfred I have a real bow and poisoned arrows for him, give my love also to Frances & Susan & to Mr & Mrs Elliott & all the family.
Believe me, my dear Mother,
your affectionate Son
Philip Augustin Galindo
My dear love,

What a terrible time I've had of it!! What John could have meant God knows. I must surely soon hear from him or see him!! I write with the greatest caution, all my letters to me from him Lumley &c have been opened & published!! I don't know what to write, I could speak volumes facts I dare not write & falsities would be folly. I arrived here (pennyless) last Wednesday! after coasting along the St Blas & Carthaganean shores to avoid the pursuit of a Columbian ship of war!! I'm safe now but that's all. What a strange destiny mine is! Don't mention I've written to you to a soul not even family. You may of course to John, if he should yet be in London find him out & tell him where I am injoin Mr Elliot to be silent also. present to him all his family my warmest attachments & continued remembrance. Hope a few days will decide my fate, suspense is dreadful. Write to me immediately under cover to E G Grindley Esq Commissariat department Kingston Jamaica On his majesty's service. Give me every information you cannot be too minute but I trust in God we shall meet before receiving it
Yours ever faithfully & sincerely
Philemon
